The base is an incredibly rugged Vibram sole unit, which is made of multiple rubber compounds for the most reassuring traction underfoot. The Moab 2 GTX shoe has clearly been made with hikers in mind. Merrell have coined the rugged materials on the upper as 'synthetic leather and mesh'. The grey synthetic leather encases the foot in heavy gauge protection, and this is further reinforced by the black rubber toe protector.
